While you’re exploring the Mindflayer’s spaceship at the beginning of Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll meet some characters, like Us the Brain and Lae’zel the Githyanki. Towards the end of this part, you’ll find a cleric called Shadowheart who’s stuck in one of the Mindflayer’s pods. You can add her to your team if you manage to get her out of the pod. So, here’s how to help Shadowheart escape from the pod.
How to free Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3?
To free the Shadow heart just follow the steps below:
- Reach the room where Shadowheart’s pod is located, near the end of the ship in Act One.
- Examine the console just to the right of her pod. There will be an empty socket which something can be placed into.
- Head through the sphincter to the room to the east of the chamber Shadowheart is in.
- You’ll find another pod with a figure inside. Walk past it or use stealth mode to the opposite end of the room.
- Search the body of the “Dead Thrall” next to the Cartilaginous Chest. They’ll have an Eldritch Rune on them.
- Return to Shadowheart. Place the Rune into the socket on the console and then interact with the console again.
- Select the option that pops up: “Illithid (Wisdom): Will the pod to open.” This will free Shadowheart.
After you set her free, you can talk to her. From then on, she’ll join your team for the rest of the Nautiloid tutorial.
Keep in mind that some classes, like the Wizard, or characters with specific Arcane abilities and skills, have the chance to hack the console without needing the Eldritch Rune, which lets them skip this part of the sequence.
Is it Worth freeing Shadowheart?
We strongly suggest that you rescue Shadowheart from the Mind Flayer pod when you get to it. The puzzle to free her is fairly simple to solve, and there’s no real disadvantage in doing it unless you’re trying hard to keep Lae’Zel happy.
Shadowheart is a helpful team member, and her aid is very beneficial for the rest of the first act. Plus, she’ll appreciate you for saving her when you meet her later in the game. So, rescuing her is a fast and simple way to build a good relationship with this character.
