Discover How Loadouts Work in Destiny 2 Lightfall! Unlock, Save or Equip!

Destiny 2 Lightfall brings a lot of fresh content and a new gameplay experience by introducing loadouts. Here is an overview of how loadouts work.

Bungie has made things interesting in Destiny 2 Lightfall, packed with a new storyline, exotic characters, a fresh subclass, and extensive end-game content. The game took it to another level with major loot options that helps in the new build-crafting experience. Besides all this fresh content, Lightfall has also introduced loadouts, which means there is no need to reach third-party applications like Destiny Item Manager to switch loadouts.

With this new loadout addition to the game, players can freely save, design, and switch between various loadouts on each character. But at the same time, not every loadout slot will be available after logging in. In this article, The CPU Guide will share some insights on how Loadouts work in Destiny 2 Lightfall and what advantage you can earn from them.

What’s the Issue with Current Loadout System in Destiny 2

Before we discuss the new loadout system, let me give you some insights on the current one, the current loadout system in Destiny 2 requires quite some time with its bulky interface. The current loadout system causes various problems when it comes to armor modifications as the players have to pass through every single armor piece selection to insert in each mod of each slot.

Considering numbers, there are 5 slots for armor pieces and 4 for each mod. Choosing the armor seems like a lot of work as you have to keep moving between the options. It’s a very hectic and time-consuming process. While in the new loadout system, players can instantly switch between loadouts without affecting their in-progress activity.

How Does the New Loadout System Works in Destiny 2 Lightfall?

In a simple definition, the new loadout system in Destiny 2 Lightfall allows players to save their loadouts in a slot that can be used later. In this way, players can easily transition between their builds on which they have spent some time and effort, with a simple button click. This feature is otherwise available through the Destiny 2 Item Manager, a third-party program requiring some time to process.

With the new loadout system, the following items are included in the Destiny 2 Lightfall.

  • Armor
  • Mods
  • Ornaments
  • Shaders
  • Weapons

How to Unlock Loadouts in Destiny 2 Lightfall

Players can access up to 10 loadouts per character from 30 different loadouts. For a veteran, the initial number of slots is set at around 6 loadout slots which are unlocked and ready to use.

To unlock the additional 4 slots per character in Destiny 2, you must increase your rank to level 6 following the Guardian Rank System. In the Guardia Rank System, you’ll have to complete the Flawless Lost Sector Guardian Rank Challenge, found in the Guardian Rank 7 challenges.

How to Complete the Guardian Rank 7 Challenges?

To bypass this rank challenge, you’ll need to complete any Lost Sector at legendary difficulty without dying. It seems pretty challenging, as you can’t even die once. Otherwise, you’ll fail the challenge. Still, completing this challenge is pretty easy as it’s more like a game of patience. I suggest waiting for Lost Sector on the EDZ or Europa is better since they are pretty easy and simple to finish compared to other challenges.

In contrast, avoid Savathun’s Throne World or The Moon, which requires time and effort, especially for inexperienced players. After completing this challenge, the four loadout slots will unlock permanently, and you can use them freely during any season.

How to Equip and Save Loadouts in Destiny 2 Lightfall

Before following the process below, ensure your button mapping and settings are default. Then follow these steps to equip and save loadouts.

  1. To access your loadouts, press left on the D-Pad or press the left arrow key on your keyboard if you are on PC in the character inventory screen. Your loadouts will appear on the left side of the screen.
  2. Now press A (on Xbox) or X (on PlayStation) to save your current loadout in this slot.
  3. To overwrite the currently equipped loadout, press and hold X (on Xbox) and Square Button (on PlayStation).

With the new system, you can equip the loadout at any time during any activity, therefore is no need to access the Orbit anymore. You can also modify the display icon associated with loadout by pressing the left key on D-Pad while your cursor hovers in the loadout menu.

New Mod Manager is Coming to Destiny 2 Lightfall

The new mod manager will be a single screen for players to swap their equipped mods while playing the game. This new manager system seems much better than the current Destiny Item Manager, which is a real headache with its time-consuming interface. I hope this new Mod Manager will make the build crafting experience smoother and more seamless for the players.

Final Words

I appreciate that Bungie has made some positive changes to Destiny 2 Lightfall to make the user experience more seamless. The game is already catching the hype with its neon-effect gameplay and Spiderman-style free-roam, and now it has become more fluent to play with the new loadout feature.
