Why Cyanide Studio is Cutting Out on the Match Sessions in Blood Bowl 3?

Blood Bowl 3 is going to introduce a new way to play tabletop fantasy football by making it more engaging with shorter gameplay.

Cyanide Studio is making some reductions to Blood Bowl 3 by restricting the game limit to approximately 1 hour less than Blood Bowl 2. The previous version of the game took anywhere from 90 minutes to 2 hours per session, which will be reduced to almost half in the new Blood Bowl 3 for a snappier gameplay experience.

But what’s the point of reducing the game session in the Blood Bowl, and how will it affect the gameplay experience for new players?

The CPU Guide is here to discuss why Cyanide Studio is cutting out on the match sessions in Blood Bowl 3 with other expected changes in the new release.

Why Blood Bowl 3 has Shorter Game Sessions?

Blood Bowl 3 gaming sessions are cutting short because of the online multiplayer experience from the previous version of the game. A standard game session in Blood Bowl 2 lasted anywhere from 90 minutes to 2 hours, which I believe was a waste of time for new players unfamiliar with the game mechanics and rules.

Extra timer in Blood Bowl 3

Being stuck in a game for more than an hour, about which you have absolutely no idea, seems pretty traumatizing to me. Therefore, the project manager Gautier Brésard led to some changes to make the game a bit shorter, so the new players could get a fair chance to try Blood Bowl 3 for the first time.

What Changes Are Expected in the New Blood Bowl?

Speaking to Wargamer in an interview, the Blood Bowl 3 project manager Gautier Brésard is aiming to reduce the match time to 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes. In addition to that, game developers aim to reduce the turn time. I appreciate this shorter time limit as it will help players stay focused on the game instead of getting distracted by other elements and wondering if there is enough time.

Turn Timer in Blood Bowl 3

It means the new Blood Bowl 3 has two minutes per turn with a spare time of 7 minutes and 30 seconds per halftime. Brésard also mentioned that Blood Bowl 3 has a global time bank, which will ensure that players still have sufficient time to play their critical moves in the game.

Is Blood Bowl 3 a Short Game?

After looking at the time limits, does Blood Bowl 3 become a shorter game compared to the other multiplayer? Brésard says it’s still sufficiently long, with a time limit of up to 1 hour 15 minutes per session, compared to other multiplayer games. Based on the Blood Bowl 3 preview, I think it is still enough to play the game for an hour when you compete against the monsters with human players.

Final Words

It’s great that the game developers are becoming more concerned about the gameplay experience to give newcomers a fair chance at the Blood Bowl gameplay experience. I believe this tabletop game would be a perfect opportunity for board gamers lovers as it brings accurate adaption of Blood Bowl 2nd Season Edition to a digital adaption.
